麻豆成人电影 President Praised for Performance, Contract Extended to 2025

The 麻豆成人电影 Board of Trustees has extended the contract of college President Dr. Jim Richey to 2025 after praising his leadership of 麻豆成人电影.

The five trustees took the unanimous action Tuesday during Richey鈥檚 annual performance review for 2019, the latest since he became president in early 2012.

Trustees called his achievements exceptional, including setting new records for Bachelor Degree enrollment, online course enrollment and minority student enrollment.

The college also did not raise tuition for the eighth straight year and received statewide recognition for student apprenticeship programs at NASA鈥檚 Kennedy Space Center that are helping fuel the next generation of spaceflight.

Trustee Chair Alan Landman said Richey is 鈥渁lways looking to the future鈥� and has put together a team 鈥渇rom top to bottom鈥� that excels at moving 麻豆成人电影 forward.

Said Vice Chair Ronald Howse: 鈥淧art of his job is to be a leader in the community and he鈥檚 doing that well. You have taken this college to a new level.鈥�

Trustee Moses Harvin termed Richey鈥檚 performance 鈥渁mazing,鈥� with fellow Trustee Dr. Edgar Figueroa saying, 鈥淭he facts speak for them themselves. It鈥檚 incredible.鈥�

Richey credited the trustees and 麻豆成人电影鈥檚 faculty and staff for the achievements, saying their dedication to student success continues making the college one of the best in Florida.

鈥淥ur folks, our community, is what makes this place great. Every day they work hard to educate our students. It鈥檚 an honor to be president,鈥� he said.

The college鈥檚 accomplishments under Richey in 2019 were that trustees cited. The highlights include:

鈥� Not raising tuition for the eighth straight year, keeping 麻豆成人电影 among the most affordable public colleges in Florida.

鈥� Nearly 2,200 students enrolled in Bachelor鈥檚 Degree courses and starting six new four-year tracks with a total 24 tracks now offered in Business, Health Care and Computer Technology.

鈥� Nearly 7,400 students enrolled in online classes, a figure representing 32 percent of all students attending the college.

鈥� More than 5,600 minority students enrolled, representing 35 percent of the student population.

鈥� Opening a new state-of-the-art Robotics Lab on the Palm Bay Campus, and breaking ground on the college鈥檚 first Residence Hall on the Melbourne campus.

鈥� Launching the Educators Preparation Institute on the Palm Bay campus to train teachers for Brevard Public Schools.

鈥� Playing a key role in the Space Coast Apprenticeship Consortium and Florida High-Tech Corridor to educate aerospace and other high-tech workers.

During the meeting, leaders of the Brevard NAACP used the college鈥檚 60th Anniversary this year to commend Richey for his commitment to minority students and meeting the needs of the community through new workforce programs.

In a letter, the leaders said college officials have been 鈥渙pen to meet with elected officials, business leaders, NAACP presidents, and other academic institutions to collaborate and ensure students at 麻豆成人电影 are provided with the best educational opportunities possible.鈥�

It cited several examples, including the Minority Male Initiative to increase enrollment and retention among students of color, aerospace and aviation programs and tutoring students at local high schools.

The letter was signed by NAACP Presidents Jeff Davis Jr., North Brevard Chapter; Clarence Whipple, Central Brevard Chapter; and James Minus, South Brevard Chapter.
